2005 Robert Mondavi Winery Pinot Noir Carneros
About This Wine:
The 2005 Robert Mondavi Winery Pinot Noir is a lovely floral wine with a kick of refreshing acidity. Ripe, well-integrated tannins merge with flavors of dark plum enlivened with a zing of cranberry and whispers of tobacco and green tea. The complex array of aromas and flavors comes from grapes grown in the Los Carneros region of Napa and Sonoma Valleys, where the cool marine climate and clay loam soils foster vibrantly fruity Pinot Noir. More than a dozen different Pinot Noir clones contribute depth and dimension to the wine, and specially selected Burgundian yeasts add further nuances of flavor. Aging in small Burgundian barrels imparts a hint of toasty oak in the long, lingering finish.

Tasting Notes:
Floral with dark plum flavors, a zing of lively cranberry, and whispers of tobacco and green tea. Supple tannins with a refreshing counterpoint of bright acidity. Long, lingering finish.

Good bright medium red. Sexy aromas of black cherry, red berries, spices, truffle and earth. Good pure, sappy pinot with a light touch to its raspberry, mineral and spice flavors. This relies more on its acids than its tannins for structure. Beginning with vintage 2004, Mondavi has made its pinot in a fresher style, doing virtually no racking until the bottling. Intensely flavored and attractive wine, and a terrific value.
