Glen Carlou Gravel Quarry Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 Glen Carlou is a South African winery, established in 1985. The Company was situated in the heart of South Africa’s scenic Paarl Valley. The warm, dry summers and cold, wet winters of this area combine with an exciting variety of slopes and the riches of our soils to create unique winegrowing conditions.

Glen Carlou’s Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 is deep purple red wine with a bright, youthful tinge. This wine has aromas of Nutmeg, cloves and aniseed backed up with vanilla spice. The palate consists of Mulberry, raspberry and herbal notes with a crisp acidity. The finish shows an intense, fruit-driven character with a solid tannin backbone for maturation.

The grapes were harvested on 15th March 2005. During fermentation, the wine spent 12 days in stainless steel tanks and then 7 days on skins. The wine was then aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak (Nevers MHT and Les Bertrange HT). The wine was bottles in January 2007.

Wine Spectator: A nice core of raspberry and currant fruit is held together by dark toast and licorice notes. Drink now through 2009. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. Score: 89.
