Alexander Valley Cabernet Franc 2005

Description

Cabernet Franc is customarily a bit player, a varietal that usually has a small supporting role to principles like Cabernet Sauvignon or in Bordeaux-style blends like Alexander Valley Vineyard’s proprietary wine CYRUS.

Yet when Cabernet Franc is afforded center stage, the grape shows it can easily handle top billing if need be. Bright aromatics and lively fruit are the hallmarks of this grape and they are clearly in the spotlight in the 2005 Cabernet Franc. There’s big blueberry, cherry and mocha flavors here along with a bit of black olive and some earthiness. This wine will drink great upon release or can be cellared for up to five years.

  1. Just went Costco-ing and found 5 new wines for under $15.99. I’ll have to report after I try them. There’s a French malbec, California cabernet sauvignon, meritage, and chardonnay. Anyone else find a good value wine?
